Brother and sister Scholl founded the anti-Nazi White Rose movement at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich. They distributed flyers against the war and the dictatorship of Adolf Hitler. They were caught by the Gestapo in 1943 and were executed. The memorial on a plaza in front of the university depicts their flyers.
